Do not let water sit in the reservoir as this will cause scale build-up and affect the taste of your espresso shot; if you make a few shots at a time, flush through with hot water after each extraction to prevent any build up (or use an anti-scale brand like Cafiza which you can also add to each new fill).
You should especially do this if you have hard water from a tap because that will quickly turn into rock hard residue inside the machine – just imagine what it would do for your coffee puck! The seals around the brew group and other components where steam and liquid comes into contact need to be treated at least every six months or so, depending on how often they are used.
Once you have removed any residue from these parts, add a small amount of Nespresso type sealing liquid or heavy-duty food grade silicon grease to keep the rubber soft and prevent any further build up – always use this sparingly as a little goes a long way.
